There are movie characters who inspire growth, humility, and personal reflection. Tony Stark is not one of them.

Iron Man (2008) gives us Peak Tony™, brilliant, reckless, charming, wildly overconfident, and fully convinced the world should bend to his schedule...sounds like some of my cruise clients.

The movie that starts it all!
The movie that starts it all!

This is pre-character-development Tony. The cockiest version. The one who walks into a room already impressed with himself. And honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly the travel energy we need.

So if you just watched Iron Man and suddenly felt taller, richer (emotionally), and more inclined to wear sunglasses indoors — welcome. Let’s travel to Malibu like Tony Stark before the humility arc.

Malibu: Billionaire-on-a-Cliff Energy

Vibe: Effortless wealth. Ocean air. Minimal explanation required.

Tony Stark’s Malibu house isn’t just Malibu-adjacent — it’s modeled after the real-life cliffs of Point Dume, an ultra-exclusive stretch of coastline known for dramatic bluffs, hidden beaches, and homes that scream “old money meets modern glass.” This is not sandy-boardwalk Malibu. This is you need a gate code Malibu.

In the film, Stark’s home feels isolated, intentional, and powerful — a place where a man can build world-changing technology while waves crash beneath him. It’s coastal luxury with privacy baked in.

This is where Tony retreats when he needs to think… loudly. This is where he wakes up to ocean views and fresh brewed coffee, delivered by Pepper Pots. This is where he can stare off into the distance and imagine he is in Tahiti..."a magical place". It's also where he brings Vanity Fair journalists to after a night of partying in Vegas. Your visit may be different. But no less fabulous!

Jarvis: Show me luxurious Malibu stays...

Let's start with Malibu Beach Inn. This is the kind of place Tony Stark would approve of after a long night saving the world; understated, secure, and right on the water. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t need to be. This is confidence-level luxury set directly on a private stretch of Carbon Beach. The hotel offers immediate access to the coastline and is just a short drive from Point Dume Natural Preserve and Malibu Bluffs Park, making it ideal for morning hikes followed by very intentional lounging.

For a girls retreat, this hotel hits the sweet spot between bonding and breathing room. You can do things together — sunrise walks, coffee on the terrace, beach time — without feeling like you’re on top of each other. It’s restorative, elegant, and very “we deserve this.”

Planning a romantic getaway and and want your luxury low-key? The Surfrider Malibu feels like the cool, design-forward beach house Tony Stark would retreat to when he wants quiet companionship and good conversation. No cameras...unless you're into that kind of thing. Located steps from Malibu Bluffs Park, this boutique hotel makes it easy to pair morning coastal walks with slow breakfasts and rooftop lounging.

And for my Solo Mia Aunties, may I present June Hotel. A relaxed and approachable escape, quietly positioned near some of Malibu’s best inland hiking. Close to Malibu Creek State Park, it’s ideal for travelers who want movement, space, and reflection, without giving up comfort. This is the hotel for solo travelers channeling Tony Stark’s thinking arc — when the suit comes off and the processing begins.

You have to leave the hotel sometime...

It goes without saying that the "absolute ultimate" Malibu vacation has to include a trip down to Leo Carrillo State Beach, where Sandra Dee and James Darren filmed the original Gidget. Afterall, it was the Gidget Franchise that inspired the @angelgoes__ moniker. Sign me up for a Private Surf Lesson so I can live out my "teenage, just in between age" fantasies. I would definitely enjoy a trip to The Getty and if I plan my trip right I can catch the Beach Boys or Smokey Robinson and Gladys Knight at the Hollywood Bowl. And we all know I can't be this close to Disneyland and not stop by to see Iron Man.

Tony Energy Quote: “Sometimes you gotta run before you can walk.”

Not every trip needs to be transformational. Some trips are about confidence. Style. And letting the movie fantasy spill into real life. And the best part? You don’t need a billion-dollar suit to travel this way — just the right hotel, the right timing, and someone who knows how to quote it properly.

(Spoiler: that’s me.)
